Youth Advisory Council (YAC)

Our Youth Advisory Council (YAC) brings together mid-Michigan teens to lead and serve their community.

For nearly 30 years, our local youth have been giving back for social good. YAC members award thousands of dollars each year in grants to local youth-serving organizations.

What is YAC?

Our Youth Advisory Council (YAC) surveys the needs of local youth, makes grants from the Youth Fund to address these needs, and partners with local youth-serving organizations to support and bring awareness to issues that affect teens. Grant award decisions are made BY youth, FOR youth.

In 2023, the YAC granted more than $61,000 to youth-serving organizations in Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham counties! A few are:

  • $5,000 to Petals and Pinecones for a mentoring program for young women.
  • $5,000 to The Village Lansing for life skills workshops that include financial education, CPR training, conflict resolution, gun safety, and team building.
  • $5,000 to Judson Love Clothing Center to purchase clothing for teens.
  • $5,000 to The Firecracker Foundation for digital mental health and mutual aid resources for black girls.
  • $2,500 to Ele's Place for a new High School grief Support group.
  • $2,500 to Eaton Rapids High School for the community service activities of the Interact Club.

Lansing YAC members hosted a Dodge the Stress event in 2023 to raise awareness of teen mental wellness. The event included workshops about managing stress and anxiety, and concluded with a dodgeball tournament!

The local Youth Endowment Fund is invested carefully by the Capital Region Community Foundation, to grow over time and increase the availability of grant funds each year. YAC members also fundraise to support grantmaking and re-investing in the Youth Fund. Supporting the Youth Fund is a great way to ensure youth programs can continue in the tri-county region!
